Many and many a day ago we used to have fun here at Liquorature by tossing up a ‘top 5…’ for discussion.  Any and all are welcome to throw in their two cents.  All ya gotta do is follow the rules set out by the original poster (OP), and put together your own thoughts.  Oh yeah…and be prepared for a bit of mockery.  😉

Let’s go retro.  Back to the earlier days of Liquorature.

This time?

Top 5 ‘Escape’ movies.

Not escape as in prison break, but escape as in a film that visually depicts a world/place/mentality you want to be a part of or inhabit.  Give us a title and a few words on why each appeals.

Got it?  Good!

My own picks coming soon, but image above hints at one.

  1. 1. The beach of “The Beach” minus the bad guys and the hysteria. Not sure where my house is, though

    2. The Paris of “Before Sunrise” and “Something’s Gotta Give” and Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris.” It’s more an atmosphere, really.

    3. Pandora. Blue chicks, commute to work on a pterodactyl, monsters that might eat you, a simpler life. What’s not to like?

    4. The Matrix. No, seriously. Agent Smith can make it so I’m rich, and have each steak taste perfect even of it *is* panther poop.

    5. The Universe of “Roger Rabbit.” Are you kidding? I get to make a pass at Jessica Rabbit…

    6. Rivendell from LOTR. Do I even need to explain this?

  2. 1. The Beach – Lance pegged number one for me too. Hence the imagine in the post. Koh Phi Phi. Where the beach was flimed. There were some great visuals in a rather unremarkable film. Could have been so much more. Regardless…I have a soft spot for this one. The love scene in the water, all luminescent and just…wow.

    2. Dazed And Confused – Now…in all fairness, I lived this movie. My high school years were as close to an actualized version of this tale as it is possible to get. Even so…the soundtrack was different and the fashion was a little ‘grungier’. They had Aerosmith, War and Sabbath. We had Blind Melon, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. The earlier 70s kicked ass on the 90s in almost all ways. We were a clear cut winner with facial hair though. 70s ‘stches? Ugh.

    3. The Wicker Man (1973) – Love the closed little Hebrideancommunity with a dark side. Pagan…back to nature…erotic…ideal. Take me away please!

    4. More to come…

  3. 1. Mama Mia. I know, I know it’s a freakin musical based on shitty ABBA tunes, but It takes place in Greece and is absolutely gorgeous.

    2. Dazed and Confused. I wish I lived through this time 🙁 but sadly I got stuck in the 80’s not that the 80’s were all bad (G n’ R).

    3. Slapshot. what Canadian boy didn’t want to be a pro hockey player growing up? I know these guys aren’t pros but I’d love to be a part of a disfunctional team like this 🙂

    4. The Bourne Identity. I’d love to be this kick ass!

5.Point Break. Surfing, adrenaline, bank robbing, girls…

  4. A film that visually depicts a world/place/mentality you want to be a part of or inhabit. – My first choice is an easy one ……………………The Quiet Man . It was directed by John Ford and stared John Wayne, Maureen O’Hara, Victor McLaglen and Barry Fitzgerald. It depicted an idealized Irish society, with no social divisions based on class or religion . The outside scenes were filmed in beautiful Ireland , it also contained drinking ( no rum ) and lots-o-fighting , really what more could a Ginger ask for .

    • A bottle of robust red rum is what a ginger could reasonably hope for, even if he didn’t ask.

      • If you reverse red rum you spell murder which is a crime so drinking red rum ( any rum for that matter) is in fact a crime . Contemplate this on the tree of woe !

  5. Top 5 here we go

1- Braveheart – Set it in Scotland need i say more. As a bonus there’s Blood, Claymores, Naked Chicks and Scotch

2- Jurassic Park – Tropical island with dinosaurs HELLS YEAH

3- The Beach – Having been to the Beach and Kosan Road where leo drinks snake blood makes it all the sweeter

4- Matrix – set in a computer program where anything is possible and to learn something all you have to do is download it is pretty kick ass

5- Old School – have a fraternity with wild parties and having minions to do all your work for you and to call you GOD FATHER yes please
