So…as mentioned…

I am trying to navigate my way through the planning of a whirlwind distillery tour of Islay.  For those unfamiliar, Islay is one of the Southwestern islands of Scotland, both famous and infamous for producing those big smoky peat monsters I hold so dear.

The island is home to eight distilleries, many of which I consider some of my absolute favorites.  These distilleries – Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, Bruichladdich and Kilchoman – open their doors for tours, sales and of course sharing a dram or two.

In theory, this trip is planned for the back end of September, so I will start a running commentary on this whole excursion shortly.  I am open to traveling companions, gents, if you can extricate yourselves from the grind for a week.  Any thoughts, suggestions, comments are welcome.

I wish we were all going…Sigh.

I should add…this trip is getting cheaper and cheaper.  The Pound is low right now;  return airfare to Glasgow under $900;  hostel (very well-reviewed) at under 15 Pounds a night.  This could be a very affordable getaway.

More details as things unfold…

  1. you could hire me out to be your personal photographer to document this trip in photos for you so you can fully enjoy your journey without having to concern yourself with remembering to snap a couple of pics ;)

  2. I’ll pay you one dram, good sir, and the the pleasure of my inebriated, peat-reeking company shall be your gratuity.

    Deal?

Want me to ask CL for you?

  3. You do of course require a biographer who, in inimitable and scintillating prose, will write the Great Epos of Sieur Robinson as he embarks on this noble (but doomed) quest.

Fees are reasonable, if high. No no, don’t thank me. I wouldn’t do it for free. I’m sure Pat feels the same :-)

  4. Tickets booked. Islay awaits…

  5. Speaking of Islay…

Look outside. Kind of feels like I’m in Scotland already.
