Sigh. Disappointing night. Not bad…just…disappointing. Had so much potential. Perhaps expectations were set too high, as this is likely our magnum opus in terms of how much is packed into these pages. Topics never got deep enough into philosophy or aesthetics for my liking. Expected a little more polarity, but it seemed to be fairly well-received and appreciated by most for the same qualities. Awarded Bauer a “Who is John Galt” shirt for being the keener (in the three months between announcement of Atlas and our meeting, he read Atlas twice and The Fountainhead as well). Pat, Clint, Bauer and I had cigars and we sipped from a couple of very heavily-peated whiskies (not to most people’s liking, unfortunately). The Ardbeg was beautiful. Also had a whisky from India, a rum and tequila. Table full of a wide array of munchies and sweets. Topic conversation about two and a half hours and didn’t even scratch the surface.
